Adult Volunteers

Scouts only works because adults give their time. At 3rd Sefton East, volunteers lead sections, help on nights and camps, look after the charity side of the Group, and support fundraising and admin. You do not need to have been a Scout yourself — just a willingness to help young people thrive.

Ways you can help

  • Section leadership — lead or assist Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts or Explorers
  • Occasional helpers — lend a hand on a night, event, camp or skills evening
  • Trustee Board — help govern the Group as a charity (finance, premises, risk, planning)
  • Behind the scenes — admin, fundraising, buildings, transport, communications

What volunteering involves

Every adult role in Scouts follows The Scout Association’s safer volunteering process. Exactly what you need depends on the role, but typically you can expect:

  • A chat about the role and what time you can offer
  • An application and identity checks
  • A DBS (criminal record) check where the role requires it
  • Safeguarding and safety learning (and role-specific training for leaders)
  • Support from the Group while you settle in — you are not left to figure it out alone

Time commitment varies. Some people help a few times a year; section leaders usually commit to a regular weekly meeting plus occasional weekends. We will be honest about expectations before you start.
