Trustee Board

The Trustee Board is the charity trustee body for 3rd Sefton East Scout Group. Under The Scout Association’s Policy, Organisation and Rules (POR), trustees work together on strategy, performance and assurance — making sure the Group is run safely, legally and sustainably — so section teams can deliver a great programme for young people.

What the Trustee Board does

In line with POR and Scouts’ trustee guidance, the Board focuses on governance (not day-to-day section programmes):

  • Managing money well — budgets, reserves, fundraising and proper accounts
  • Managing risk, insurance, premises and equipment
  • Following POR and key policies, including safeguarding, safety, data protection, and equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Planning for the longer term and making sure volunteers have the resources they need
  • Supporting open, proper appointment of trustees and good charity governance

How the Board is made up

POR expects a Group Trustee Board of typically 5–12 trustees, including a Chair, a Treasurer, and the Group Lead Volunteer as an ex officio trustee. Other trustees are appointed by the Scout Council at the AGM, and the Board may also co-opt trustees between AGMs. Administration (for example minutes and records) supports the Board; under current POR it is not a separate Trustee Board officer role.
